How to choose a German school in Berlin
Match the school to your goal, not just the rating
A top-rated school for conversational German isn't necessarily the best for the medical Fachsprachprüfung or a student visa. Use the "best for" picks above, then check the school's actual course list.
Check if you qualify for funding before you pay
BAMF-approved schools offer state-funded Integrationskurse (A1–B1), and DeuFöV Berufssprachkurse (B1+) can be free for eligible jobseekers. If you qualify, funding matters more than price. See Integrationskurse and Berufssprachkurse.
Decide on format and pace
Intensive courses (20+ hours/week) move fastest and are required for a language visa; evening and weekend courses fit around work; online courses remove the commute.
Read recent reviews, not just the star score
Two schools at 4.7 can feel very different. The review count tells you how reliable the score is — which is exactly why our ranking weights it.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best German language school in Berlin?
There is no single "best" school — it depends on your goal, budget and level. To stay objective, LingoMap ranks Berlin's German schools by their verified Google rating, weighted by the number of reviews (so a high score backed by hundreds of reviews counts more than one from a handful). By that measure the top-rated school is currently Die Deutschule, but the right school for you depends on what you need — see the "best for" picks above.
How much do German courses in Berlin cost?
Prices vary widely. Intensive group courses typically run from around €200–€400 per month, private lessons are much more, and state-funded Integrationskurse and Berufssprachkurse can be free or close to it if you qualify. Each school's lowest starting price is shown in the table, and you can compare every course by price on the full course list.
Which German schools in Berlin are BAMF-approved?
BAMF-approved schools can offer state-funded Integrationskurse (A1–B1). They are marked with a badge in the ranking below. You can also see all of them on the BAMF courses page.
How does LingoMap rank the schools?
We rank by a review-weighted Google rating — a Bayesian average that combines each school's star rating with how many reviews back it, against the Berlin-wide average. Only schools with at least 10 reviews are ranked, so a 5.0 from three reviews can't outrank a 4.8 from hundreds. Data is checked regularly against each school's own website.
